Internationalization Internship – Position Description
Learning Outcomes – Intern will:

Work
directly under the guidance and supervision of the Student Enrichment
Administrator, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences
·
Utilize
skills he or she has learned previously, such as Microsoft Excel, Word and
PowerPoint, in an office environment
·
Have
opportunities to learn new software skills, such as Qualtrics and Microsoft
Publisher
·
Further
develop oral communication skills while interviewing and conducting discussions
with faculty
·
Learn more
about campus resources related to area studies, international film, ethnic
studies and cross-cultural service learning
Responsibilities:
·
Assist in
the marketing of BSOS Global Scholars, a new program starting fall 2013, for
which applications will be accepted in February 2013
·
Assist in
testing the online application for BSOS Global Scholars
·
Assist in
processing applications for BSOS Global Scholars
·
Assist in setting
up interviews for candidates for BSOS Global Scholars
·
Gather
resources for the development of the Canvas course space for the fall 2013 BSOS
Global Scholars seminar
·
Sort and
filter information in Excel spreadsheets on BSOS international alumni
·
Begin
collecting information from BSOS faculty on international research experience
and interests
·
Assist in
developing a database of BSOS faculty international research interests
·
Other
responsibilities as may arise related to international activities within BSOS,
international students and/or education abroad
Minimum qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled as undergraduates at the University of
Maryland. A GPA of 2.5 or better is required. Candidates must also:
- Have completed at least two semesters at the University of Maryland
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Have good Microsoft Office skills, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Listen well
- Be punctual and reliable, learn quickly, and fulfill assignments on time
- Have the ability to conduct short research assignments independently
NOTE: Candidates applying to the
inaugural class of BSOS Global Scholars may not apply for this internship
Desired qualifications:
- BSOS Major
- Experience with databases
- Experience with Microsoft Publisher
- International background, international experience, or ethnic studies background
Intern is expected to work 5-10 hours per week beginning in
February 2013. The internship is
designed to qualify for BSOS 388I elective credit for two or three credits
depending on the intern’s schedule and availability.
