JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in Service Centers throughout the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).  Responsible for processing customer transactions in all areas of the Department’s Service Center operations, including first-time vehicle registration, registration renewals, learner permits, driver licenses, commercial driver licenses, non-driver identification cards, residential parking permits (RPP), vehicle title transactions, and related administrative support functions. Handles complex transactions and non-routine matters, including non-standard communication, international documentation, system stop investigations, research, etc.

Serves at the information counters, customer service windows, and knowledge testing examination areas. Accepts customer questions, handles complex transactions and non-routine matters, including non-standard communication, international documentation, system stop investigations, etc.  Able to research and respond to ad-hoc questions from the public which may entail complex, intertwined issues.  Provides independent advice to customers regarding transactions and serves as the primary informational resource for the public and businesses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Legal Instrument Examiner, the incumbent is responsible for handling complex transactions and non-routine matters, including non-standard documentation, international documents, stop investigations, etc. The incumbent works as scheduled between the information desk, customer service windows, license examination rooms, and Processing Center, etc. 

The Legal Instrument Examiner will serve as the primary informational resource for the general public and business inquiries relative to motor vehicle and driver services.  Interprets, applies, and explains to the public and new employees, the provision of the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
