About the Position:  
This is a full-performance professional and administrative position within the Office of Human Rights.  This position requires the performance of the duties normally contemplated for this class under the general supervision of a higher-level professional.  Primary responsibilities include investigative work enforcing discrimination laws and policies by Title VII, Title VIII, Title I of ADA, ADEA,  Division 12 of the Prince George’s County Code, and other applicable laws and statutes.

Work is evaluated through the quality of investigations completed, reports, projects, and progress toward the Agency’s goals and objectives. Incumbents are required to treat all personnel and personal-related matters as strictly confidential.  Confidential information may not be discussed with other County employees (including individuals in the Office of Human Rights) except for work-related reasons, and under the terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act.

Qualifications

What You'll Need: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills such as criminology, law enforcement, business or public administration, one of the social sciences or related fields.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures characteristic of investigative work.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures associated with interviewing and taking statements.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate information collected during an investigation.
  • Ability to handle investigations and negotiations with tact, resourcefulness, and good judgment.
  • Ability to prepare clear and complete reports of investigations and to make recommendations on courses of action.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The Investigator I is distinguished from the Investigator II in that it is an entry-level trainee position.
  • Work is routine and requires knowledge of basic Investigative principles and practices.
  • Incumbents work under close supervision, following established standards, practices, and procedures for work situations for which answers are readily available.
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaker preferred.
