The University of Maryland attracts thousands of students to campus each year. Current students play a crucial role in attracting prospective students to apply and decide to attend UMD through walking tours and other major visit events. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosts a series of events and daily visits on campus and selects a diverse group of students to represent the university in this influential role.

As a University of Maryland Tour Guide, you will educate prospective students and guests about important facts and the history of the university while sharing your own unique UMD story. Tour Guides help foster a diverse community by building partnerships with multicultural organizations and offices on campus and assisting with recruitment efforts to achieve a diverse pool of new members who represent the UMD student body.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Give 2-3 tours a week, with each tour requiring a 2.5-hour shift.
  • Provide tours during daily visits, group tours, and events.
  • Offer tours during recruitment and yield events on campus, including Open House programs, Admitted Student Programs and Visit Days, Virtual Programs, Scholarship Days, Counselor Programs, Maryland Day, and more.
  • Conduct tours for special programs, including group tours, unique visit requests, and approved requests from campus partners.
  • Participate in student panels during programs, if necessary.
  • Assist with special projects with our Marketing and Communications team, including social media posts, communication campaigns before or after events, and daily visits.
  • Attend all required training as set forth by your direct supervisor.
  • Serve as a professional representative of the University of Maryland and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We are hiring for multiple Campus Tour Guide positions. 

Education:

  • Must be a full-time University of Maryland undergraduate student.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have clear and concise communication skills with the ability to speak in front of large groups.
  • Must authentically deliver the Maryland student experience through your own story or through your peers’ experiences.
  • Must passionately represent the University of Maryland and campus culture.
  • Must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Must create a welcoming environment for all guests and visitors.
  • Must be able to provide tours during major on-campus event days.
