This position is located in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Homeland Security Branch (HSB), Analytical Services Division, Major Investigations Branch (MIB). It works in direct support of MPD, Investigative Services Bureau (ISB). The primary purpose of the position is to collect, analyze and coordinate a variety of complex intelligence data and prepare comprehensive reports to support ongoing investigations.
This Investigative Analyst position is covered under the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) bargaining unit and you may be required to pay an agency fee through direct payroll deductions.
The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
- With minimal supervision or oversight, gathers, researches, analyzes, evaluates and develops complex investigative intelligence information to support detectives/agents in the conduct of criminal investigations. Prepares comprehensive investigative reports.
- Through use of a variety of electronic databases, identifies, interprets, and reports information needed to locate suspects, determine asset ownership, and establish associations between entities.
- Coordinates investigative analysis work of major, high-priority cases which are central to agency objectives; coordinates verification of data; and conducts meetings and briefings.
- Provides accurate and timely criminal intelligence to detectives by providing information from law enforcement databases to develop possible suspects and vehicles of interest to determine path of travel to and from the offense.
- Examines and analyzes social media and telephone data to establish patterns and identify new leads.
- Formulates information source search strategies, reviewing data to identify patterns and relationships across financial, criminal, public record, and other information.
- Extracts and organizes complex statistical data and queries databases for intelligence data and background information based upon identified parameters, retrieving pertinent data in appropriate output format and disseminating to command staff and detectives.
- Prepares maps and graphs and applies advanced mapping techniques to provide research, analysis and investigative findings in a visual format.
- Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations regarding computer software and hardware related to investigative analysis and data manipulation.
- Creates presentations and other media materials for briefings to the executive level staff and the Mayor’s Office.
- Establishes working relationships with counterparts in local, state and Federal law enforcement agencies for the purpose of exchanging pertinent information and providing free flow of information.
- Represents the branch and MPD authoritatively to key officials and organizations.
- Provides administrative support and assistance to the Investigative Services Bureau investigators and detectives in accomplishing activities for their assigned cases. Drafts analytical overview and timelines of cases.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
