Volunteer with The Peace Project in Nicaragua

The Peace Project works with the youth of Laguna de Apoyo to:
1. Provide English language instruction and reinforcing the local educational efforts to expand future job opportunities.
2. Create a culture of peaceful conflict resolution and positive communication.
3. Develop a greater awareness and open-mindedness of new ideas and cultures.

Maryland Summer Scholars Program


The Maryland Summer Scholars Program (MSS) provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students to spend the summer working closely with faculty mentors on ambitious research or artistic projects. Maryland Summer Scholars research may take place in College Park or anywhere in the US or abroad as required by the nature of the project.  For the summer of 2013, the program will provide awards of $3,000 to approximately 30 outstanding, competitively selected applicants. [Please note: if your proposed research requires travel outside of the College Park area, you may apply for a supplementary travel award of up to $1,000.]

Internship Opportunity - IGRS



Institute for Governmental Service and Research (IGSR)
Spring Internship Available

The Institute for Governmental Service and Research (IGSR) is looking for an upper-level undergraduate student to assist in preparing training materials for local law enforcement agencies and in data collection, data cleaning, data analysis, and literature reviews for studies of the court system, juvenile justice system, and substance abuse treatment programs.  We would prefer a student who can commit to at least 10 hours a week during business hours on weekdays, is a Criminology and Criminal Justice major, has completed at least 60 credit hours, and has a minimum 3.0 GPA.  IGSR is located on Hartwick Road, easily accessible to campus. This experience may be used for an internship for class credit and is an excellent opportunity for students looking for practical experience in research within the realm of criminal justice.
