Security K-9 Handler
Location: National Harbor, MD

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
K-9 Handlers are responsible for ensuring the safety of employees and guests by utilizing a trained and certified explosive detection dog to locate suspicious packages or objects that may contain explosive material. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental policies, practices and procedures.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Train and certify with explosive detection trained dog
  • Utilize canine as directed to protect life and property of MGMRI facilities and in support of designated operations
  • Search vehicles, MGMRI executive aircraft, packages, backpacks, mail, containers, rooms, buildings, areas, or other objects as directed that could contain explosive materials.
  • Maintain the canine's proficiency in explosives detection through routine training and certification.
  • Maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs, to include maintaining diet, ensuring adequate water throughout the day, and daily health checks and grooming
  • Maintain all assigned canine-related equipment
  • Conduct daily kennel care as directed for assigned dog
  • Perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed
  • Provide excellent guest service to guests and employees
  • Act as a First Responder in emergency situations
  • Conduct specialty training on, but not limited to CPR/AED, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in law enforcement, military, or private security, and/or legal within profession.
  • Varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Ability to pass a company approved canine certification course within the first 90 days of employment
  • Must maintain annual K-9 certification
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Gaming Registration
  • Alcohol Awareness Card
  • Must be approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to handle explosive material

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to learn, demonstrate proficiency and effectively use defensive tactics techniques and various software
  • Ability to participate in all evacuations procedures to aid guests and employees during an emergency
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment
