The Prince George's County Office of Human Rights is seeking qualified applicants to fill an Investigator I/II position, grade H-18/21, in the Investigation Division.
About the Position:
This is an entry to full performance professional and administrative position within the Office of Human Rights. This position requires the performance of the duties normally contemplated for this class under the general supervision of a higher-level professional. Primary responsibilities include investigative work enforcing discrimination laws and policies in accordance with Title VII, Title VIII, Title I of ADA, ADEA, Division 12 of the Prince George’s County Code, and other applicable laws and statutes. Work is evaluated through quality of investigations completed, reports, projects, and progress towards the Agency’s goals and objectives. Incumbents are required to treat all personnel and personal-related matters as strictly confidential. Confidential information may not be discussed with other County employees (including individuals in the Office of Human Rights) except for work related reasons, and under the terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act.
Examples of Work
- Conduct intake interviews to determine whether to initiate an investigation of a possible violation(s) of the anti-discrimination statutes or areas under Agency’s area of responsibilities.
- Draft letters to notify the parties (Complainant and Respondent) of the initiation of an investigation and identify documents/data needed; and obtain the Executive Director’s signature.
- Conduct public presentations to citizens, concerned groups, business community and social organizations in order to promote education, information and awareness of the agency’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Prepare letters of determination, written requests and reports, notice of charges, Administrative Orders, and extensive case notes; prepare recommendations concerning investigations, resolutions, mediation, and conciliation of cases in accordance with agency standards and guidelines established by EEOC and other partnered agencies.
- Testify at hearings/in court, providing pertinent evidence/information and awareness of the agency’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the position description but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level of this class of work.
Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Law Enforcement, Business/Public Administration, Social Science, or a closely related field.
