JOB SUMMARY
The Security Investigator I will conduct investigation and surveillance of suspected workers’ compensation, FMLA fraud, and malingering claimants. Provide aid to Manager-Security Special Operations in building cases for criminal, civil, and disciplinary procedures to be taken against proven instances of workers’ compensation and FMLA fraud.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Investigate and surveil suspected workers’ compensation and FMLA fraud cases. Document activities observed through video recording and/or photography to substantiate inconsistencies with an alleged injury.
- Initiate and develop confidential case files and sources for workers’ compensation and FMLA investigations to be used for criminal or disciplinary procedures when fraud is discovered.
- Develop and maintain a close working relationship with fraud units and state personnel involved in insurance fraud.
- Work closely with law enforcement personnel to facilitate access to necessary records needed for the investigation.
- Maintain a working knowledge of individual state laws regarding workers’ compensation, and possess the ability to testify in court or labor hearings as necessary.
- Develop working relationships and maintain communications within the company to assist in the investigation of suspected workers’ compensation fraud.
- Assist other members of the security department as needed on special projects as assigned by the appropriate manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Associates degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
- Experience with surveillance techniques and surveillance equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of the transportation industry.
- Expertise in firearms and self-defense.
- Knowledge of technical aspects of security products used in documenting evidence.
- Investigative skills in workers compensation insurance or law enforcement experience.
