BACKGROUND
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 26 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Anti-Trafficking program provides trauma-informed and client-centered services to assist victims of trafficking. Services include meeting clients’ basic needs, ensuring clients’ safety and access to temporary and long term shelter as needed. Also, the program refers clients to pro bono legal services, mental health specialists and economic empowerment activities as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess clients’ needs and priorities and work with each client to create a service plan. Managing clients’ cases and case files.
- Guide clients to various appointments including but not limited to: appointment with lawyers, law enforcement and medical appointments.
- Engage in community mapping to identify and refer client to resources
- Engage in outreach activities to identify potential clients and increase visibility of the program in the community
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum commitment of four months and at least 15 hours per week.
- An interest in international and refugee issues. Interest in or experience working in a multi-cultural setting.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.

IRC Silver Spring is operating hybrid due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Spring 2023 interns may intern remotely and/or in-person and the situation will be reevaluated as things evolve.
This internship is for spring 2023 and requires a minimum commitment of 4 months and at least 15 hours per week.
Note: This is an unpaid internship; school credit may be received depending on your program and institution. Candidates applying who are not currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or are outside 12 months of their graduation are welcome to apply. These candidates will be processed as volunteers.
